“Documents released in a classic Friday afternoon news dump show that labor unions representing 543,812 workers received waivers from President Barack Obama’s signature legislation since June 17, 2011,” noted the Daily Caller. “By contrast, private employers with a total of 69,813 employees, many of whom work for small businesses, were granted waivers.”

Recall that labor unions were the first ones to jump at a national health care system. Until they found out who would be paying the bills. Having heavily supported Obama’s 2008 campaign they were able to gain waivers to exempt most of their membership from mandatory participation. For the population which is not covered by waivers, we will be subjected to paying more for less care. Not to mention having a government bureaucrat responsible for approving our health care.
That is another misleading inaccurate right-wing commentary. Altogether, the Obama administration has granted 1372 waivers and has denied about 100 requests. The mini-med waivers are essentially a stop-gap measure designed to keep employers from dropping health care benefits all together. The White House explains that waivers are granted if conforming to the rules “would disrupt access to existing insurance arrangements or adversely affect premiums, causing people to lose coverage,” acknowledging that the low-benefits plans are sometimes the only option that some employers can offer. The Democrats’ rationale is that the other changes under federal health reform will eventually allow employers to receive better, more affordable coverage under the health insurance exchange, when it begins operating in 2014.
Union workers HAVE health insurance, so they don’t need to be involved with the program. Most non-union workers don’t have company provided HEALTH INSURANCE so arrangements have to be made so these people can have coverage. This ‘question’ reminds us how many people are influenced by the propaganda they hear on right wing radio. Bring back the ‘Fairness Doctrine’.
Universal Health allows for alternative plans that meet or exceed the nations health plan. In other words, they have their own Universal Health Plan nationally for Union Members. Just like MA has their own health plan state wide.
I’m glad to help inform you. Keep asking questions, and stay informed.
Unions already had healthcare for their members. Far superior to the mandates.
I know you wanted it to be something nefarious. Sorry to disappoint you.
First those waivers are a short term, 1 year, waiver and almost all of them have gone to very large corporations (most unionized) that needed extra time to blend the Obamacares criteria into their own very complicated health care coverage plans.
Vote buying and pandering to the support base.
Political concessions to paid contributors.
