I only worked for about a month and a half at Zales for $9/ph and I’ll only be getting $69 back so yes, I know it’s not much but I just wanna know that if I do file for taxes (don’t even worry about whether I’ll be charged for it or not), will my mother be at all penalized?
I won’t go through with it if she will be.

Probably not. If you are a minor and have made less than $7,000 for the year you both can file. However, only ONE of you will get the exemption for you, NOT BOTH. My advice would be to ask a tax professional (or if you are computer smart, go to turbo tax and input the information to see if it is even worth you filing on your own). Also, if you are a minor I would suggest you talk to your mother because I am assuming she works and will have way more wages and taxes then you, so her being able to carry you would be a benefit to her.
No if mom claims you, which she is entitled to since no way did your pittance of a salary pay for your full support, you cannot claim yourself.
If you file your own return, she can’t claim you. If she does anyway, yes, she’ll be hit for it.
yes she or you will be fined and have to pay the irs back or go to jail…. sorry
